CinemaCon to Debut First Look at GODZILLA MINUS ZERO as Takashi Yamazaki Joins GKIDS Presentation
CinemaCon is getting ready to unleash a little kaiju-sized excitement this year. Attendees at the Las Vegas convention will be treated to the very first look at Godzilla Minus Zero, with Oscar-winning filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki taking the stage to present exclusive footage from the upcoming film.
The preview will kick off the April 14 “State of the Industry” program at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace during CinemaCon. The presentation is being hosted by distributor GKIDS, and those in attendance will get a sneak peek at the next chapter in the legendary Godzilla franchise before the rest of the world.
Yamazaki’s appearance adds some extra weight to the moment. The filmmaker recently took home the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for his work on Godzilla Minus One, and he’ll personally introduce the footage during the presentation. His presence highlights how international filmmaking continues to play a major role in theatrical releases around the world.
The event also represents an interesting milestone for GKIDS. The distributor has built its reputation by bringing acclaimed international animation and filmmaker-driven projects to North American theaters. In 2024, the company was acquired by Toho, strengthening its connection to Japanese cinema and to the long-running Godzilla legacy.
Cinema United president and CEO Michael O’Leary spoke about the importance of diverse theatrical offerings, saying:
“The future strength of our industry depends on a year-round diverse slate of films that speaks to the broad range of moviegoing audiences around the world. GKIDS exemplifies a commitment to diverse moviegoing choices, and we are thrilled to be working with them.
“Many thanks to David Jesteadt, the entire GKIDS team and the visionary filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki for their continued support of theatrical and what is sure to be an incredible show.”
GKIDS president David Jesteadt also pointed to the company’s continued focus on the theatrical experience, with the CinemaCon presentation serving as another example of that commitment.
“We are longtime champions of the importance of the shared theatrical experience. We believe there’s no better place to kick off Yamazaki-san’s Godzilla Minus Zero than at CinemaCon with the folks who present that movie magic on the big screen: the cinema owners.”
The upcoming film itself reunites Yamazaki with the iconic monster as director, screenwriter, and visual effects supervisor. Production on Godzilla Minus Zero is currently underway, and anticipation is already building among fans eager to see what Yamazaki does next with the King of the Monsters.
Toho plans to release the movie in Japan on November 3, while GKIDS will launch a wide North American theatrical release beginning November 6.
CinemaCon runs April 13 through April 16 in Las Vegas, and if this first look is any indication, the convention is starting things off with a seriously cool kaiju-sized punch. I can’t wait to see this footage unleashed!
