If you haven’t had a chance to watch Cinemax’s martial arts drama Warrior yet, if you have HBO Max, you’ll be happy to learn that the series will be coming to the streaming service.

The series is based on the writings of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, and it was created by and is executive produced by Jonathan Tropper (Banshee) and executive produced by Justin Lin (Star Trek Beyond, F9: The Fast Saga) and Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee.

Warrior is a gritty, action-packed crime drama set during the brutal Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the late 19th century. The series follows “Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), a martial arts prodigy who emigrates from China to San Francisco under mysterious circumstances. After proving his worth as a fighter, Ah Sahm becomes a hatchet man for the Hop Wei, one of Chinatown’s most powerful Tongs (Chinese organized crime family). Season two follows rival Chinatown Tongs as they fight for dominance amidst the growing anti-Chinese fervor that threatens to destroy them all.”

The news of Warrior coming to HBO Max comes from Lee, who says:

"I would love for this show to go on. It was really saddening and disheartening when that decision came down, about the Cinemax originals and not just for us, but for all of the originals that Cinemax does and those shows and those creators.

"I do think, in my opinion, our show is extremely important, in terms of representation. I would say in the one hour TV space, we are exceedingly unique. And in fact, I don't know if you have heard but after Season Two airs on Cinemax, HBO is going to make the show available on the HBO platforms, which will hopefully garner it a larger audience, which will be great."

Lee goes on to explain that the story of Ah Sahm, who was created by her father 50 years ago, is far from over and she hopes that the new support from HBO Max will allow the series to live on, possibly as an HBO Max Original.

"Season Two ends and you can see that it's not a finished, wrapped up piece, right? So there was a lot more that we wanted to do and it was unfortunate that we were caught up in the timing of all of this. And I do hope that if people start to understand the importance of the show and more and more people get to see the show, that a demand for the show to continue will come about and at some point we'll be able to do that."

Season 2 of the series has yet to premiere, but it will be released on Cinemax on October 2nd. We don’t know when exactly Warrior will end up on HBO Max, but I imagine it won’t happen until after Season 2 runs its course on Cinemax.
