Claire Danes (My So-Called Life, Homeland) has been cast in the lead role in Apple’s upcoming dramatic series Essex Serpent. Danes is taking over the role from Keira Knightley, who dropped out of the project last October. The series is based on the book of the same name by Sarah Perry.

Variety reports that the story “follows newly widowed Cora (Danes) who, having being released from an abusive marriage, relocates from Victorian London to the small village of Aldwinter in Essex, intrigued by a local superstition that a mythical creature known as the Essex Serpent has returned to the area.”

The series will be directed by Clio Bernard with Anna Symon serving as head writer. Danes is a fantastic actress, and I am excited to see her in a new series. Does this sound like a show you might want to check out?
