Classic Arcade Game FROGGER Being Turned Into Physical Competition Series at Peacock
The classic arcade game Frogger is being turned into a physical competition series at the NBC streamer Peacock. The 13-episode first season was ordered from Holey Moley producer Eureka Productions. “The game, which was launched in 1981, saw players try to direct frogs home one by one, crossing a busy road and navigating a river full of hazards. It was developed by Konami and published by Sega and became one of the video game hits of the 1980s.”
Deadline describes the series, saying:
The series will feature 12 obstacle courses, or crossings, seeing contestants dodging traffic, leaping over snapping gators and hopping over hungry hippos to conquer the course and win a cash prize.
I can’t help but picture George Costanza on Seinfeld when he bought the Frogger arcade game from his childhood pizzeria after discovering with Jerry that his high score was still standing decades later. He had to move the game across the street, Frogger-style, only to get it caught on the curb and lose it to a truck.
I think that this actually sounds like kind of a fun show, and one that my kids would get a kick out of, like Wipeout. Does it sound like a show you might watch? Either way, here’s a clip of George playing Frogger in the streets of New York.
