Classic STAR TREK Communicator Can Link to Your Phone

The classic communicator from the original Star Trek series has been recreated for fans as a bluetooth device that you can link to your phone. So now you can actually talk to people with a awesome Star Trek communicator! The product comes from ThinkGeek and it’s fully functional. Here’s the description from the product page:

With the flick of a wrist, you will be answering calls like Kirk and Spock with the very first fully-functional wireless Star Trek Communicator. Is it accurate? Well, it was created using 3D scans of the alpha hero prop. How does it work? It pairs up with your Bluetooth®-enabled phone just like a wireless speaker or a pair of headphones would. Speaking of which, you can also use it as a speaker for hands-free calls or streaming music from your Bluetooth-enabled audio player. And a high-quality MEMS microphone ensures Scotty can make out your “One to beam up.” The stand also provides built-in contactless charging capability. And, in case it wasn’t already impressive enough, the Communicator has built-in authentic sound effects and conversation fragments from the Star Trek Universe for additional geek cred. As if you needed any additional geek cred after you whipped this baby out.

If you want one, it’ll cost you $149.99. It was designed using structured-light 3D scans taken of the alpha hero prop so it looks as authentic as authentic can get. I’d buy it!

Star Trek has brought us some of the coolest gadgets seen on TV - the most iconic of which is the Communicator. Various toy replicas have cropped up over the years to let every kid play Captain Kirk, but it took Star Trek's 50th anniversary (and a company obsessed with detail) to bring a working Communicator to the mainstream.
