Clip From YOUNG WASHINGTON Teases The Gritty Early Days of America’s First President
Presidents’ Day just got a cool cinematic twist. A brand-new clip from the upcoming historical epic Young Washington has dropped, giving us our first real look at the intense early chapters in the life of George Washington.
Before he became a symbol of American independence, he was a young soldier trying to prove himself in a world that didn’t make it easy.
The newly released footage centers on Washington stepping forward to offer his services and pitch a battle strategy to General Edward Braddock, played by Andy Serkis.
It’s a tense little moment that highlights a version of Washington we don’t often see on screen. He’s ambitious, determined, and still carving out his identity. The scene shows him navigating military politics while trying to earn respect from seasoned officers who aren’t quick to hand it out.
The film’s official description reads: “Before he led a revolution, he survived one. The origin story of America’s first leader. From Jon Erwin (House of David) comes a powerful new historical epic based on the true story that shaped a nation.”
This story digs into the battlefield experiences and personal trials that forged the man who would eventually lead a revolution and become the first President of the United States.
The cast includes William Franklyn-Miller taking on the role of young George Washington, bringing a fresh face to a figure we usually picture much later in life. He’s joined by Mary-Louise Parker, Kelsey Grammer, Andy Serkis, and Ben Kingsley.
Erwin co-wrote the screenplay alongside Tom Provost and Diederik van Hoogstraten, aiming to ground the larger-than-life historical figure in something personal and human.
For history buffs and fans of war dramas, this one could be a solid theatrical event when it hits the big screen. Angel Studios will release the film in theaters on July 3, 2026, just ahead of the United States’ 250th anniversary.
