CLOAK & DAGGER Director Gina Prince-Bythewood To Direct Film Adaptation of THE OLD GUARD Comic Series

Gina Prince-Bythewood, one of the directors of the fantastic Marvel TV series Cloak & Dagger and the upcoming Sony Pictures Marvel film Silver and Black, has signed on to helm a film adaptation of the comic book series The Old Guard.

The comic book was created by writer Greg Rucka and artist Leandro Fernandez and the film is being developed by Skydance. This is a female-led story and it sounds like it will make for a great flick as it follows a group of immortal soldiers who work as mercenaries.

The Old Guard focuses on a small group of soldiers, led by a woman named Andy, who are inexplicably immortal and have been working as mercenaries through the ages. The novelty of not dying long gone, the group gets a jolt in their bones when they discover the existence of a new immortal, a black woman serving in the Marines, at the same time as a nefarious organization captures their undying actions on camera.

This story actually sounds like it would be more interesting than Silver and Black, so it's good to see that Prince-Bythewood will be making it before that one. This has the potential to be a badass action film franchise!

Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will produce the project, which hopes to shoot this fall in time for a release in 2019.
