CLOVERFIELD Director and ROGUE ONE Writer Teaming Up For MOUSE GUARD Movie
I've never heard of Mouse Guard until today, but it's an Eisner-award winning graphic novel series from writer/illustrator David Petersen that's been around for a decade at this point, so I'm sure some of you are fans of it. Now Matt Reeves, the director of Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, will produce a Mouse Guard film adaptation that's going to be written by Gary Whitta, one of the writers of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Before we go any further, check out the synopsis of Mouse Guard from Amazon:
In Mouse Guard, mice struggle to live safely and prosper among all of the world's harsh conditions and predators. Thus the Mouse Guard was formed. They are not simply soldiers that fight off intruders; rather, they are guides for common mice looking to journey without confrontation from one hidden mouse village to another. The Guard patrol borders, find safeways and paths through dangerous territories and treacherous terrain, watch weather patterns, and keep the mouse territories free of predatory infestation. They do so with fearless dedication so that they might not just exist, but truly live. In this first issue of Mouse Guard, Saxon, Kenzie, and Lieam are dispatched to find a missing merchant mouse that never arrived at his destination. In doing so they stumble onto much more than they had bargained for.
Sounds pretty cool. The film will be live action but utilize the same performance capture tech from the new Apes movies as well as tech used in Jon Favreau's Jungle Book in order to bring the mice characters to life. This looks like a crazy world to dive into, and it looks like this is a good starting point.
Have you read the Mouse Guard comics? Do you think they're good material for a film adaptation? Who would you like to hear provide voices for the main characters? Sound off in the comments below.
