COBRA KAI Actor Tanner Buchanan Talks About Robby's Descent to the Dark Side in Season 4
Cobra Kai actor Tanner Buchanan plays Robby Keene, son of Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and bad boy who has been dealt a rough hand in life. The character started out as a student of Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and the guy who snatched Daniel’s daughter from her Cobra Kai boyfriend, Miguel (Xolo Maridueña). After a karate showdown at the high school that left Miguel comatose at the hands of Robby, and the police out to get him, Robby disappeared for a while. Upon returning, he turned to the original Cobra Kai leader John Kreese (Martin Kove) in his vulnerable state.
Now, Robby, Kreese, and bad girl Tory (Peyton List) make up the core of Cobra Kai, and are up against Johnny and Daniel’s new combined dojo that has recruited most of the karate students in town. As for what we will be able to expect from Robby’s character in the upcoming fourth season, Buchanan recently spoke to Variety (H/T Screen Rant), saying:
"The thing I can say about my character is, you know, he is turning to the dark side, because so many people have screwed him over in the past. And he’s kind of tired of that.
“However, through this season, he has a lot of growing to do… I feel like this season is the moment, specifically in his life, where this is where he’s gonna decide what road he’s gonna take. You know, what road is he gonna take. And it’s kind of going to influence the rest of his life. And he does make that decision."
The best part of the series to me is that it’s not just a bunch of fan service. It really has a journey for each character, and it has been filled with surprises and so much heart along the way. It will be awesome to see where Robby’s story leads, as well as each of the other characters. The tournament is coming up, and we have to know what’s going to happen with the return of Terry Silver! Cobra Kai Season 4 is headed to Netflix this December.
