COBRA KAI Co-Creator Jon Hurwitz Says the Series Has an Endgame That Goes Beyond Season 5 and Teases a Possible Extended Universe
We are just a couple of months away now from the fourth season of Cobra Kai, and if the first three seasons were any indication, the fourth will be the best yet. The series has already been given a fifth season, but the show’s co-creator Jon Hurwitz says that they won’t be stopping there.
In a recent string of Tweets from Hurwitz, he said, “We are very deep into our season five planning. Several scripts and outlines have been written. And we are definitely writing towards an endgame, which will hopefully be beyond season five." He added in a later tweet: "We have lots and lots of plans, both inside and outside of the Miyagiverse."
So not only are we looking toward a longer story arc, but also a possible spin-off? That’s pretty exciting. I’m not usually stoked for spin-offs, but Cobra Kai is one of my favorite shows, and it has exceeded all expectations, so if they end up doing something else inside this universe, I know they will handle it well.
Cobra Kai co-creator Josh Heald also previously told TVLine that plenty more seasons are planned, saying:
"It’s well beyond [season four]. In our minds, we have seasons’ worth of story that is necessary to tell before we get to that endgame. That will be a discussion going forward with our new partners at Netflix. Can we write to that endgame? Can we know that it’s coming?"
I certainly hope that creators Hurwitz, Heald, and Hayden Schlossberg are able to take Cobra Kai to its natural end. If there is a cool spin-off story that they want to get to series, that would also be fun, but the flagship series is the fans’ number one priority. I can’t wait for the upcoming seasons and the stories they will tell.
Cobra Kai Season 4 is set to hit Netflix this December. Are you pumped to see what will happen at the tournament?!
