COBRA KAI Co-Showrunner Teases the New Relationship Dynamics Being Explored Between Daniel and Johnny in Season 4

Cobra Kai main characters Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny (William Zabka) have been through a lot over the past three seasons. After coming back into each other’s lives, and going head to head in competing dojos, the pair have finally found common ground and are joining in the fight to take down their common enemy, John Kreese (Martin Kove), who has taken over the Cobra Kai dojo.

Daniel and Johnny are now operating under the new Miyagi-do/Eagle Fang outfit, and have joined forces. But that doesn’t mean the fourth season will be nothing but smooth sailing for the pair. Daniel and Johnny are notoriously childish when it comes to dealing with one another, so it will be interesting to see how the next season unfolds.

When teasing the fourth season, Cobra Kai co-creator and co-showrunner Josh Heald told The Hollywood Reporter:

“I can just say, without giving away any spoilers, season four delivers on the premise of the series, which is what happens when these guys get into each other’s lives and get under each other’s skin. We’ve watched arguments, we’ve watched consequences and reactions, and overreactions, and now we’re entering a phase in which they are putting down their weapons and looking at each other and accepting the challenge in front of them with [head teacher John] Kreese and kind of taking that next step and trying to grow as adults and leaders. And it’s a great tipping point for them as performers and for their characters because it starts to provide new colors to their arrangement that are not just, ‘I hate you, I hate you.’ We’re finally entering into a second phase of their relationship.”

The series moves the story along so well without making each season feel like the last. There are always new surprises, which just make each season better than the last. I can’t wait for the next season of Cobra Kai, and to see what happens between these two great characters.
