Colin Farrell Says THE BATMAN Script is an Original and Unique Version He Hasn't Seen Before
Colin Farrell continues to excitedly talk about being involved with director Matt Reeves’ The Batman. He’s already explained that Reeves wrote “a really beautiful, dark, moving script, really gorgeous.” He’s now doubling down on those comments saying that the script is an original and unique version of the story that he hasn’t seen before. He also shares his excitement for the movie, telling SFX Magazine:
"The whole prospect is really exciting. I’m ecstatic to be part of that universe. There are certain words that are part of my internal lexicon and those words are Gotham City, Penguin, Joker, Batman, Bruce Wayne, Harvey Dent… all of those things.”
He goes on to talk about how the script is original and unique, saying:
"I have been watching the Batman films with my kids, but this script is something that feels incredibly original. It leans into it but it doesn’t borrow; it’s born of the mythology of that character, Bruce Wayne, Batman and Gotham. But it feels like a treatment and a version that I hadn’t seen before. Matt Reeves has done an incredible job of keeping it familiar and at the same time unique and new. It’s really exciting to be a part of it."
It’s going to be cool to see what exactly he’s talking about when the movie is eventually released.
The film also stars Robert Pattinson as Batman, Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood) as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, John Turturro (The Night Of) as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Peter Sarsgaard (Green Lantern) as Gil Colson. Gil Perez-Abraham (Orange is the New Black), Charlie Carver (Teen Wolf), and Max Carver (Teen Wolf) have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
The Batman will be a noir-style film that will lean into Batman in his detective mode. The director said that it’s going to tell a deep and psychological story and confirmed that the movie will not be an origin story. However, it will acknowledge his origin and how it’s still something that he’s “majorly struggling” with. When previously talking about the film, Reeves said:
“It's very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It's told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films. The comics have a history of that.”
The Batman is now scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2021.
