Colman Domingo Gives Reassuring Update On Live-Action THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG New Take
A couple of weeks ago, it was announced that Academy Award and Emmy nominee Colman Domingo (Michael, The Four Seasons, Disclosure Day) and Tony-nominated director Robert O’Hara (Slave Play) were in talks to write the script for Disney’s live-action take on The Princess and the Frog.
The 2009 animated film was a hit, and the property has not been expanded upon until now. While the live-action remakes of Disney’s animated movies has been a very hit-or-miss category, Domingo has a reassuring update on the project.
In a recent interview with Deadline, the actor/writer explained: “One of my comrades, Robert O’Hara, was seeking to develop a piece that is based on the film, but it really is about, like, really looking at the family and tying everyone in together.
“All the magic and the spiritual nature of New Orleans and Mardi Gras and centering all these characters that we’ve loved from the film and putting them into this live action that is grounded and has humor and heart.”
It sounds like they are looking to tell an original story set in this world with these great characters and interesting setting, not just a rehashing of the exact same story.
But it does sound like the concept it still very early days. Domingo went on to say, “We haven’t even put pen to paper, but we’re thinking and gestating on what could that be?”
I love Colman Domingo, and I love The Princess and the Frog, so I look forward to seeing what comes of the project.
