Comic-Con Trailer for HBO's Fantasy Drama HIS DARK MATERIALS with James McAvoy and Lin-Manuel Miranda

HBO dropped a new trailer at Comic-Con for their fantasy drama series His Dark Materials, which is based on the book trilogy by Philip Pullman.

The book series is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction, and the first season of the series follows Lyra, “a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets Will, a determined and courageous boy. Together, they encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets, with the fate of both the living — and the dead — in their hands.”

This show looks pretty incredible, and it has an awesome cast that includes James McAvoy as Lord Asriel, Ruth Wilson as Mrs. Coulter, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby, and Dafne Keen (Logan) as Lyra Belacqua.

The series is sure to be a much better adaptation than the 2007 film that was made. It looks like the series could capture the spirit of the novels, and I’m hoping that this will end up being a fun, strange, and twisty ride.

The movie is set to be released later this fall.
