Comic-Con Will Stay in San Diego Through 2018!

Comic-Con by Joey Paur

There's been a lot of talk about Comic-Con International leaving San Diego over the years. We've heard that it could move to places such as the Los Angeles, Anaheim, and Las Vegas. I'm a huge supporter of keeping the epic geek con in San Diego, and I've been afraid that it would leave because the convention has seemed to outgrow the city.

Variety is reporting that Comic-Con International has made a deal to stick around San Diego through at least 2018! San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer will make it official later today. Their current contract was supposed to expire next year.

San Diego has been the home of Comic-Con since it first launched in 1970. Since then it has grown to an average of over 130,000 attendees in recent years.

According to the report, Faulconer was "trying to convince dozens of local hotels to keep the cost down on their room rates, which tend to skyrocket during the always sold-out event." I'm not sure if that has worked because hotel prices are still pretty damn expensive. I just looked online.

The 46th edition of the annual event will kick off next week, and it looks like it's going to be an absolute blast! I'm excited that it is going to stay in San Diego for the next few years! We'll keep you updated on everything awesome that goes down during the convention!
