Compelling Trailer For Matthew McConaughey’s Civil War Film FREE STATE OF JONES

An intense new trailer has been released for Matthew McConaughey’s upcoming Civil War film Free State of Jones. The movie is based on a true story of a defiant Southern farmer named Newt Knight, who is played by McConaughey. Knight is a man who rose up against the Confederacy and organized an armed rebellion to fight back. There’s a lot of great talent involved with the development of this movie and it looks like it’s going to be powerful and intense.

The movie was directed by Gary Ross, who has made a few fantastic films in his career such as The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit, and Pleasantville. Free State of Jones seems like a great project for him to take on and I’m sure he’s made something audiences will enjoy. As a Civil War history buff, I’m excited to see this.

Banding together with other small farmers and local slaves, Knight launched an uprising that led Jones County, Mississippi to secede from the Confederacy, creating a Free State of Jones. Knight continued his struggle into Reconstruction, distinguishing him as a compelling, if controversial, figure of defiance long beyond the War.

The movie also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights), Keri Russell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), and Mahershala Ali (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, House of Cards). Free State of Jones is set to hit theaters on June 24, 2016.
