Competitive Capture the Flag is Coming to OVERWATCH

Games Overwatch by GameTyrant

Overwatch has announced its Lunar New Year Event called Year of the Dog. There are a lot of things coming to the game but one thing that stood out among the rest of them was the announcement of a new map based in Thailand. One side of the map is very ancient looking with temples and other artifacts, and the other side has a more modern structure like we are used to seeing in previous overwatch maps. The best part about this new map is, it was completely designed for capture the flag.

Some people will be excited that they are bringing back this game mode that was originally released last year during the Year of the Rooster event. Others may be hesitant to jump on board because it was annoying being in multiple games that ended in a draw, but fret not overwatch heroes they are making changes to the gameplay to make it more fun for everyone. The first major change is that there are no more draws in the game. Instead, players will be put into sudden death and the flag will be moved closer to the center so that opposing teams can pick them up faster. The next change is making flag captures instantaneous, but restricting abilities from certain characters that either increase mobility or make you invulnerable. The best example is Winston’s leap ability when used, will make him drop the flag. Developers hope that by making these changes that it will change the game into a more offensive game mode rather than a defensive one that it had come to be known as.

Also, in an effort to entice players to participate in this new and exciting rendition of the game more they are holding a 4-week competitive season on the map. Those who get into the top 500 will get special spay and a player icon.

This coupled with the launch of Overwatch League definitely makes the game more enticing. Admittedly I had dropped off of the game for a bit and instead have been playing Heroes of the storm, but as a huge CTF fan from yonder years of Halo and the likes, I am definitely feeling the itch to get back in the game and dawn Soldier 76 in this new mode.

Are you excited to play Capture the flag? For those that hated it, was it because every match ended in a draw? That was the original reason i stopped playing the mode. I’m curious to know!
