Conan Heads to Cuba, Episode Will Air March 4th

We're big fans of Conan O'Brien at GeekTyrant. I remember hanging out with some of the other writers/editors in the rain during a big rally when Conan was being ousted by Leno as the host of The Tonight Show, back when "Team Coco" was a rallying cry and not a branding element. But the big red-haired dude has done just fine over at TBS, and now he's working his way into the late-night record books. Just weeks after President Obama announced America's intentions to normalize relations with Cuba for the first time in decades, Deadline reports that O'Brien took a small crew to Havana this past weekend to film one of his famous remote segments from the country. This is the first time a late-night host has ventured to that territory since Jack Paar interviewed Fidel Castro on The Tonight Show in 1959.

The episode will air on March 4th, and representatives from the show said it's "intended to give O’Brien’s audience a rare glimpse into Cuban daily life." I expect O'Brien will bring his usual wit and ridiculousness to the situation, even though he has to be aware that the nation's eyes will be on him in this situation more than it would be on any regular broadcast for him. Now we'll just have to wait and see if this lives up to Conan's adventures in Finland.
