Concept Art for Gore Verbinski's Abandoned BIOSHOCK Film
Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski worked with Universal Pictures for years trying to get a feature film adaptation of the hit video game Bioshock into production. They just couldn't seem to make it work due to a variety of reasons, but one of the main ones was budget issues.
Verbinski was looking to make a $200 million R-rated film, and the studio wanted him to make it for $80 million. The two just couldn't come to an agreement, so the director walked away. He stayed on as a producer for awhile after they brought in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) to take on the challenge, but then Bioshock creator Ken Levine stepped in to stop to the production because he felt that Fresnadillo wasn't a good fit for the film.
Thanks to Blastr, we've got some cool concept art that was done for the film while Verbinski was developing it. It was created by Kasra Farahani, who has worked on films such as Thor and Star Trek Into Darkness.
The video game has such a cool concept, and I loved the dark atmosphere and vibe of it. You get a taste of that in this concept art. I would have loved to see Verbinski's vision of this game brought to life, but at this point it doesn't seem like it will ever happen.
