Concept Art From Studio Ghibli's Theme Park Teases PRINCESS MONONOKE and HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE Areas

A couple of pieces of concept art have surfaced for Studio Ghibli’s theme park! These images offer a first look at Mononoke Village, which allows guests to step into the world of Princess Mononoke. This area will cover nearly two acres and recreate Emishi Village and Irontown from the film.

The other photo teases Howl’s Castle from Howl’s Moving Castle. The castle will be nearly 53-feet tall and feature multiple floors and guests will be able to go inside and explore.

Studio Ghibli has been working on building this theme park inspired by their classic anime films for years, and it’s set to open on November 1st. It was previously announced that the park will be filled with five themed areas and some of the others include My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service.

The My Neighbor Totoro section will be the first to open. Two more areas, one themed around Princess Mononoke and another inspired by Kiki’s Delivery Service and Howl’s Moving Castle, will open next year. The final two sections will open by the end of March 2024.

It’s said that there will be rides, but they won’t include any large-scale rollercoasters. The park will put a focus on nature trails, and Hayao Miyazaki has insisted that no trees be cut down. Miyazaki has had a big part in the creation of the theme park, and back in 2020, former Ghibli president Toshio Suzuki joked about how Miyazaki is being a “meddlesome old man...not the type to look on supportively from a distance. He starts in right away with ‘do this’ and ‘don’t do that’.”

It’s going to be so cool to see this all in person when it’s eventually completed.
