Concept Art Reveals Alternate Helmet Designs for ANT-MAN
Concept Artist Andy Park has got Ant Man fans buzzing after he shared some new artwork from the movie on his Instagram account. Park is known for designing costumes on films like Captain America: Civil War and Guardians of the Galaxy, and his new work of Scott Lang is no tiny accomplishment.
His first post shows Scott wearing a few different helmets.
He captioned:
“These are 1st pass concept design takes on Ant-Man on the 1st film. They were looking for a retro non-Stark look. This was Hank Pym's design sensibilities,” Park captioned.
“As usual we start with the source material & look at his comic book look. And then we take the needs of our movie & make sense of the two. I always enjoy doing these faster concept designs rather than more rendered illustrations especially in 1st passes. But a lot of times we need to do the more rendered version to help sell it.”
Clearly, these helmets are much different from the one Scott ended up wearing. Park and his team even experimented with leaving part of Scott’s face exposed in the mask, a choice which would have made the costume similar to Ant-Man’s comic book look:
“closeup of of an Ant-Man concept design I did for his 1st film. The helmet was the approved helmet minus it showing Scott's mouth. I know it's more like the comic to have his mouth showing but the cinematic conceit of the suit is that it's a containment suit,” Park explained.
“The Pym particles need to be contained inside the suit in order for him to shrink & to maintain his reduced size. I guess the same applies to growth as well. I loved designing all of Ant-Man's suits in all his film appearances.”
What do you guys think of all these different looks? Is there one you like better than the design they went with?
Scott Lang can be seen again in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp movie when it opens in theaters on July 6, 2018.
