Cool Concept Art For ECHO Teases Original Plans For Maya Lopez's Superpowers
I’ve got some new concept art to share with you today for Echo and it highlights Marvel Studios original plans to give Maya Lopez superpowers that were more in line with the version of the character in the comics. Tjose powers allowed her to predict her opponents' moves...
In the comic Maya Lopez is an Olympic-level athlete who possesses "photographic reflexes," which is the ability to perfectly copy other people's movements. The way the powers were vaguely portrayed in the series was that they were passed down to Maya from her Choctaw ancestors.
The art comes from concept artist Andrew Kim, who said: "I had A LOT of fun on this keyframe for [Echo]. At the time of doing this concept, the idea was that she has the power of foreseeing the opponents' movements and reacting accordingly to avoid their hits/tackles. Hence she'd have choices to choose from to make her next moves. In the actual show, I didn't see any of that so I guess that part was cut but still, I had a blast painting this one."
You can scroll through the various pieces of concept art below to see how the artist presented this visually.
