Cool Featurette for TRON: ARES Shows How the Grid Breaks Into The Real World
Disney has dropped a great new featurette for Tron: Ares, giving fans a deeper look at how this long-awaited sequel brings the Grid into our world. Directed by Joachim Rønning, the film continues the legacy of the franchise by expanding its story of programs and artificial intelligence colliding with humanity.
The movie centers on Ares, “a highly sophisticated program, Ares (starring Jared Leto), who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind's first encounter with A.I. beings.”
This time, Tron: Ares shifts the action beyond the neon-soaked digital frontier and into the physical world, setting up a first-contact story with A.I. Unlike previous films, this isn’t just about surviving the Grid, it’s about what happens when its creations step into reality.
Greta Lee plays Eve Kim, a reclusive programming genius who’s “analytical & observant” and one of the only humans capable of standing against the rogue programs. She’s described as “one of the world's best programmers: reclusive, anti social, and an important renegade in stopping the rogue programs.”
Alongside her, the cast includes Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Sarah Desjardins, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, Gillian Anderson, and the legendary Jeff Bridges returning as Kevin Flynn.
The featurette not only shows off the wiked designs and cutting-edge effects that fans expect from a Tron movie, but it also teases the philosophical stakes. Rønning’s approach seems to ground the concept in a more tangible setting, asking what it would really mean if a sentient program walked among us.
The film is being billed as a direct sequel to both Tron (1982) and Tron: Legacy (2010). Written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne, the screenplay builds on the original characters created by Steven Lisberger and Bonnie MacBird.
Disney is ramping up its marketing as the release date closes in, with new posters, trailers, and videos on the way. Tron: Ares will hit theaters worldwide on October 10th, 2025.
