CORALINE Theatrical Re-Release Pulls in $5 Million in Two Days and New Screening Dates Are Added

Over the course of two days, the Coraline theatrical 4K re-release has pulled over about $5 million dollars, which is pretty damn impressive for a movie that was originally released 14 years ago. The fans definitely came out to support the LAIKA family horror movie and more screening dates have been announced!

The film grossed $4.91 million on Monday, August 14th, and Tuesday, August 15, at the U.S. domestic box office. LAIKA Chief Marketing and Operations Officer David Burke said in a statement: “We’re thrilled to see throngs of LAIKA fans come out in record numbers for the third straight year to revel in this Coraline theatrical experience, this year in stunning 4K.”

Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events added: “As of now, Coraline is Fathom’s biggest classic movie of all time and the second highest grossing title for 2023. This film carries such a large fan following year-after-year, and they certainly came out in force this year to see their favorite film.”

The new theatrical screening dates added are August 28th and August 29th, 2023, from Fathom Events. This is a movie that my kids and I love! It’ll be fun to see it in theaters again! The description reads:

“Coraline boasts stunning stop-motion animation, handcrafted puppets, and meticulously-designed sets—freshly re-colored and remastered for 2023. Based on the novel by beloved author Neil Gaiman, Coraline is a wondrous, thrilling, fun and suspenseful adventure. A young girl walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better. But when this wondrously off-kilter, fantastical adventure turns dangerous and her counterfeit parents try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to save her family and get back home.”

The movie was written and directed by Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Wendell & Wild), Coraline stars Dakota Fanning, Ian McShane, Teri Hatcher, Keith David, and British comedy duo Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders.
