Corridor Crew Examine Some of the Problems Studios Have with Adapting Anime into Live-Action
Many people love anime. This has led to many studios trying to adapt anime into live-action shows and films. Some do it better than others for sure, but very few of these adaptations end up being something that fans enjoy. The team at Corridor Crew recently released a video exploring a few areas where these live-action adaptations fail. For reference, the team at Corridor Crew have done one of my favorite live-action anime-inspired videos which you can check out here.
So, what do the big studios get wrong? Well, it can vary. Corridor Crew talk about how slow motion is often incorrectly utilized, studios have an obsession with showing actor’s faces, and studios often include shots and moments that aren’t made with intention to name a few. They make some really good points as they look at Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, and Death Note. Part of their goal with this video was also to try to learn how to do an adaptation like this well as they’re working on making a new anime-style short film. What do you think? Why do these adaptations fail? I’m personally getting to a point where I think we need to stop trying to adapt animated things into live-action and vice versa.
