Could Margot Robbie Return to Play Harley Quinn in James Gunn's DCU? A New Report Hints at the Possibility
When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over at DC Studios, they made a clean sweep of the actors and projects that had previously been in the works for the Warner Bros.-owned superhero genre.
That is, all but a few actors that Gunn handpicked, and was eager to bring back. One actor that neither got the axe, nor the confirmation from Gunn or the studio, was Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn in what was the DCEU. She appeared in the role in Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. She has gone on to have quite a busy career the last few years, but could she return to the role?
A new report from THR's Heat Vision newsletter gives an update on DC, and it states:
“DC Studios hasn't yet cast a Joker or a Batman. (Harley Quinn, theoretically but probably not, could still be played by James Gunn's The Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie.)”
While that isn’t a confirmation in any way, it’s an open door for Robbie’s return. The report went on to say:
“And DC bosses Gunn and Peter Safran likely want to be careful with anything Batman-related while they allow The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves to make The Batman Part II, and perhaps even a Batman Part III. There's no telling what villains would factor into that one, so Gunn and Safran don't want to step on his toes and double up on villains for their universe. (A fun aside: The Batman II is now gearing up for a spring shoot. But first, Robert Pattinson plans on filming a role in Dune: Part III.)”
We will just have to wait and see what happens with Batman and the characters in his world in this new DCU. Would you like to see Margot Robbie return to the role?
