Could Netflix’s Cancellation of LUKE CAGE and IRON FIST Lead To a HEROES FOR HIRE Series?
Netflix is on a roll with cancelling their Marvel shows. First Iron Fist was cancelled after two seasons and then last night it was announced that Luke Cage was cancelled!
The cancelation of Luke Cage comes after two seasons and Marvel and Netflix released the following joint statement:
“Unfortunately, ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’ will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series”
Variety reports that talks for a third season had taken place, but Netflix ultimately decided that what Marvel wanted to do would not be feasible. Are these two characters to victim of Thanos’ wrath? Or are they being set up for something bigger?
With Disney launching their streaming service next year, I’d like to think that the cancellation of Luke Cage and Iron Fist could lead to a Heroes For Hire series! Hell, maybe Netflix cancelled them so that they could develop a Heroes For Hire series of their own.
After all, when Iron Fist was cancelled, it was made clear that we haven’t seen the last of the character. I imagine that also goes for Luke Cage, especially with the following message that was posted in Luke Cage’s official Twitter account after the series was cancelled:
— Luke Cage (@LukeCage) October 20, 2018
That seems to indicate that Luke Cage isn’t down for the count just yet. It just seems like the cancelling of these shows just opens the door for a standalone Heroes For Hire series and that’s something I think the fans would love to see. I know I would! These characters work better together than on their own.
Sure, this may just be wishful thinking on my part, but anything is possible. What do you all think?
