Could Richard E. Grant Be Playing Grand Admiral Thrawn in STAR WARS: EPISODE IX?

It's already been rumored that Grand Admiral Thrawn could make his big screen debut in Star Wars: Episode IX. With the recent casting announcement that was made, fans are starting to speculate who one of the actors might be playing. A lot of fans think that Richard E. Grant (Gosford Park, Hudson Hawk) could be playing Grand Admiral Thrawn in the film because he has a look that would work.

Speculation is speculation, but when the actor himself chimes in on that speculation, that's when things get interesting. One fan took to social media and posted a comparison between Grant and Thrawn and that's when Grant himself liked a tweet responding to the comparison, which obviously caused fans to wonder if this is a sly confirmation of the theory. Here are those tweets:

I have no idea if this is how things will play out, but if Grand Admiral Thrawn does show up in the movie, Grant seems like the obvious choice to play him. Of course, he could just be playing some other villainous character working within the first order.

What do you think about the possibility of Grant taking on the role of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Star Wars: Episode IX also stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie LourdNaomi Ackie (Doctor Who), Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, and Carrie Fisher.

The movie will begin filming at London’s Pinewood Studios on August 1st with returning to direct the final installment of the Skywalker saga. Abrams co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Terrio (Argo, Justice League).

Composer John Williams will also return to compose Episode IX. The film is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.
