Could STAR WARS REBELS Producer Dave Filoni Be Planning a Live-Action STAR WARS Series?

Lucasfilm is planning lots of films and they've had an awesome run with animated series like The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, but when are we going to finally see a live action Star Wars series!? Lucasfilm was working on an epic project at one point called Star Wars: Underworld, which would have been awesome!

There are said to be over 100 completed scripts of a 400 episode series that are ready to shoot when and if Lucasfilm ever decided to develop them further. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy previously talked about these scripts saying they are "gold" and that she wants to eventually "develop those things further."

The Underworld series was to be set in the Coruscant underworld between Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope. It was going to be a gangster drama that was likened to Deadwood and The Godfather in space. It was also described as being The Empire Strikes Back on steroids.

I really hope that one day this happens, and if it does, it seems like the producer of the Star Wars animated series', Dave Filoni. would be the perfect guy to lead the charge!

During an interview with io9, Filoni was asked what he was looking to do after Star Wars Rebels came to an end, and although de doesn't come out and say he's developing a live-action series, he does say that he's been learning from the directors of the live-action films. Here's what he says:

“I have an incredibly talented group of people working here [at Lucasfilm]. They’ve worked for me all 12 years that I’ve been here. So I feel indebted to them and want to keep creating work for them so they can use their abilities and tell great stories. I also want to keep pushing myself into areas that are challenging and new. I’ve had a lot of experience now interacting with live-action directors like Rian Johnson who’s been really wonderful to me and showing me what their production is like.

I want to celebrate stories, and it doesn’t matter what medium its in. I don’t care — big screen, small screen — I just need space to tell a story. And do it as best I can. That’s my goal in the end. So we’ll have to see what form that takes in the future. …But let’s just put it this way. I learned from the best.”

It sounds a lot like he's preparing himself to enter the live-action arena. We know he's been interested in it because I one point he said we would be interested in directing a live-action film. While directing a Star Wars film probably won't happen for him, a series is something that I can actually see happening. And, if Lucasfilm does make a live-action series, they have to go with Star Wars: Underworld because so much work has already been done with it. It'sd be a complete waste if they didn't.

The series could also provide original content for Disney's upcoming streaming service. If they produced Star Wars: Underworld as a live-action series, I'd join their stupid streaming service in a heartbeat.

Do you think Dave Filoni is the right guy to move Star Wars into the realm of live-action TV?
