COYOTE VS. ACME Draws Great Reactions From Filmmakers Saying it's the “Best Version Of The Looney Tunes On The Big Screen”
If you didn’t think it was confusing enough that Warner Bros. scrapped the already completed Looney Tunes film, Coyote Vs. Acme, these reactions from some filmmakers who have already watched the film will confuse you even more because they all loved it!
After the decision to shelve the film was made, WB was labeled an “anti-art studio.” The whole point of initially scrapping the film was to write it down for a $30 million tax credit, declaring the movie a total loss.
Now, it’s being reported that WB is going to allow the filmmakers to shop the movie around Hollywood to find a new distributor. It’s currently being shopped around with Apple, Amazon, and Netflix showing interest. After these positive reviews have surfaced, of course someone is going to pick it up!
The reviews come from the likes of Phil Lord, Chris Miller, comedian Paul Sheer, and more. Deadline says that a screening of the movie took place on Tuesday and it “drew a huge applause at the end, and had wall-to-wall laughs with the likes of The Nun II director Michael Chaves in attendance along with Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once filmmaker Daniel Scheinert, in addition to the pic’s cast of Will Forte, Lana Candor and P.J. Byrne and Coyote vs. Acme director Dave Green.”
Scheer shared on Threads: “Coyote vs. Acme might be the best version of the Looney Tunes on the Big Screen ever. @dgreenmachine & samyburch nailed it. It’s got jokes, it’s got heart and it’s got Will Forte. You can’t miss (also the deep pulls w/ cartoon cameos are A+).“
Miller said: “I saw COYOTE VS ACME and it’s delightful. Funny, charming, good physical comedy timing, with a surprising amount of heart. I hope several studios go after it so the world can see all the good work people did.”
Lord said: “Coyote vs. Acme is wonderful. @dgreenmachine nails it. Hilarious smart existential and moving and moves this all time character more relevant than ever.”
Deadpool and The Martian producer Aditya Sood shared her thoughts saying: “COYOTE VS. ACME achieves the most difficult of all feats: a Looney Tunes movie that Messrs. Avery, Jones and Maltese would be very very proud of. It’s a delight and hopefully, it finds its audience very soon. Congrats @dgreenmachine and co.!!!”
It’s so crazy because Warner Bros. didn’t believe that the project had enough appeal for a wide theatrical release! Which seems ridiculous when people have nothing but great things to say about it!
Coyote vs. Acme was directed by Green, from a screenplay by Samy Burch and a story by James Gunn, Jeremy Slater and Burch. The story was partially inspired by an article from The New Yorker, which was written by Ian Frazier in 1990, and John Cena stars in the movie as the CEO of Acme.
Will Forte previously talked about how fun it was to make the movie and also shared some details on the story, saying:
"I mean, it was so fun to make this. It came out of this article that I think is decades old. Wiley Coyote is suing the Acme Corporation because of all the different contraptions that have exploded in his face, and stuff like that. And so, I get to play Wile E. Coyote's lawyer, and it's a mixture of animation, and it's like a Who Framed Roger Rabbit? style movie. And yeah, John Cena is so great in it. Lana Condor is in it. It was so much fun making it, and these guys who are making it are so smart. Because you’ve got to figure out where this animated character is going to move to. It was amazing to be a part of it. So, I'm excited to see how it turns out because, of course, I'm acting with a tennis ball a lot of times. There's a tennis ball for an eye-line, and it's moving around. So, yeah, I think, I don't know how much more I can say about it, but I've blathered on for a while.”
I really want this movie to get a theatrical release to show WB how big of a mistake they made. These people need to be kicking themselves in the ass.
