Craig Gillespie to Direct Glen Powell’s Sci-Fi Thriller HOMEWRECKERS at Legendary

Glen Powell continues to build an impressive slate of projects, and now it looks like he may have found the filmmaker to bring one of his most intriguing upcoming movies to life.

According to Deadline, Craig Gillespie has entered negotiations to direct Powell in Homewreckers, a mysterious sci-fi thriller being developed by Legendary.

Details on the project remain tightly guarded, but that hasn’t stopped interest from building around it. The film is based on a novella by Neil Paik, who is also adapting the screenplay. While the plot is being kept under wraps, the project has been described as a twisty, erotic sci-fi thriller.

Homewreckers first landed at Legendary in December 2024 following a competitive acquisition process and has remained in development ever since. Powell is attached to star in the film and will also serve as a producer.

If Gillespie ultimately signs on, he’ll bring a track record of delivering stylish, character-driven stories across multiple genres. The filmmaker has built a reputation for balancing sharp storytelling with strong visuals, whether tackling biographical dramas, dark comedies, or big studio projects.

Movie fans know Gillespie from films such as I, Tonya, Cruella, Dumb Money, and Lars and the Real Girl. More recently, he directed and executive produced Apple TV+’s hit series Your Friends & Neighbors, starring Jon Hamm, which is already heading into its third season. He also helmed episodes of Prime Video’s thriller The Better Sister, which stars Elizabeth Banks and Jessica Biel.

The timing of this news is especially interesting as Gillespie is preparing for the release of Supergirl, his first project for DC Studios’ new cinematic universe. The film, led by Milly Alcock, arrives in theaters this Friday, June 26, and marks his official entry into the DCU.

For Powell, Homewreckers adds another high-profile title to a career that has exploded over the last few years. Between major studio films, producing ventures, and now this ambitious sci-fi thriller, he continues to position himself as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand talents.
