CRAZY RICH ASIANS Series in the Works at Max With Adele Lim and Jon M. Chu Returning
A Crazy Rich Asians series is in the works at HBO/Max, with Adele Lim, who co-wrote the 2018 film, set as showrunner and executive producer,and director Jon M. Chu returning to executive produce.
Like the film, the TV project is based on Kevin Kwan’s book series of the same name. Crazy Rich Asians was published in 2013, followed by China Rich Girlfriend in 2015 and Rich People Problems in 2017. Kwan executive produced Lim and Chu’s 2018 film and will also executive produce the Max series, for which Warner Bros. TV is the studio.
It is not yet known whether the series will feature returning cast members from the film.
Besides Crazy Rich Asians, Lim is best known for 2023’s Joy Ride, her directorial debut feature via Lionsgate. She also wrote Disney’s 2021 film Raya and the Last Dragon. Currently, she is directing and producing The Princess Diaries 3 with Anne Hathaway, and her previous credits include TV series such as One Tree Hill, and Private Practice.
Chu is the director of the 2024 film adaptation of Wicked as well as its upcoming sequel Wicked: For Good.
