Crazy Teaser Trailer Drops For Live-Action SAKAMOTO DAYS Fat Assassin Movie
The first teaser for the live-action adaptation of Yûichi Fukuda’s Sakamoto Days has arrived, and it wastes no time showing fans exactly what kind of chaotic, deadpan action we’re in for.
It’s only about thirty seconds long, but it delivers a sharp and energetic first look at the plus sized powerhouse himself. If you have been watching the wildly popular anime that recently hit Netflix in early 2025, you will notice this film leans heavily into a shot-for-shot recreation of the manga’s signature style.
The commitment is so strong that even Sakamoto’s opaque silver glasses have made the jump to live action.
Ren Meguro steps into the role of Taro Sakamoto, once the strongest hitman in the world, now a soft spoken shopkeeper who just wants to take care of his family. Aya Ueto plays Aoi Sakamoto, with Fumiya Takahashi and Miyu Yoshimoto rounding out the cast.
Sakamoto abandoned the assassin life the moment he fell in love, started a family, and opened the humble Sakamoto Store. He fights with whatever is lying around rather than relying on a signature weapon and keeps his world small and peaceful until old enemies decide they are done letting him retire quietly.
The studio also released the official synopsis. “Sakamoto Taro, the hitman hailed as ‘the strongest in history.’ One day, he fell in love and abruptly retired from killing. After marriage and the birth of his daughter, Sakamoto became the manager of a small local shop.
“He had become so fat... he bore no resemblance to his former self. But suddenly, a 1 billion yen bounty was placed on his head, and assassins from around the world converged. An adaptation of the wildly popular battle action manga Sakamoto Days, which has taken the world by storm.”
The live-action film is written and directed by Fukuda, the filmmaker behind titles such as Jossy’s, Psychic Kusuo, The Untold Tale of the Three Kingdoms, Black Night Parade, Gintama Live Action the Movie, Once Upon a Crime, Saint Young Men Holy Men vs Demon Army, and Under Ninja.
Toho plans to release Sakamoto Days in Japan during Golden Week 2026, which sets it up as one of the big Spring 2026 theatrical events overseas. No US release information is available at the moment.
