CREATURE COMMANDOS Producer Says Series Will Encourage DC Fans About What's Coming
James Gunn’s DCU will kick off with the Creature Commandos animated series, and this show is going to set the tone for the future of the DC franchise.
Producer Dean Lorey recently talked about the series and said that fans will be "really encouraged" by the tone that it sets for the rest of the franchise.
Lorey told The Wrap: "That's going to be the first expression of James Gunn's DC Universe. We're considering that canon, and I think it expresses his perspective, tonally, on where he wants the universe to go.”
"It's Suicide Squad. He's done it. People aren't going to be surprised by what it is, but I think they'll be really encouraged to see how completely it's going to inform this new version of the DCU, which I'm very excited about."
Gunn previously shared: “The new series picks up directly after our Peacemaker season one finale, which leaves Waller with her hands tied operationally, meaning that she’s no longer able to get away with putting human lives on the line to carry out her clandestine morally questionable missions.
“Instead, she recruits a ragtag band of misfits, not unlike the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.”
The filmmaker went on to say that the Creature Commandos roster is made up of “actual literal monsters, and I can’t wait for you to meet them. Creating this series has been one of the absolute joys of my life.”
The team consists of a human, a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein's monster, and a gorgon. The voice cast includes David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn as Weasel and GI Robot, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, with Steve Agee reprising his role as John Economos from Peacemaker.
Creature Commandos will premiere on Max in December 2024.
