CREATURE COMMANDOS Season 2 Fast-Tracked by DC Studios, Confirms Showrunner Dean Lorey

DC Studios isn’t wasting any time when it comes to Creature Commandos Season 2. Showrunner Dean Lorey recently confirmed that the series is officially on a fast track, with work already underway on the next chapter of the animated DCU.

During an interview with The Direct about Harley Quinn Season 5, Lorey shared an update on Creature Commandos, revealing that DC Studios and Max are pushing ahead quickly with the new episodes.

He explained: "I mean, it's still early days, but we are actively working on breaking the season and starting to figure that out. So it's definitely moving forward. I mean, it's like, they put it on a fast track, and they seem to mean it. So, yeah, we're in it."

That means we won’t have to wait long to see where the Creature Commandos story goes next. Season 1 left off with the introduction of Task Force M, setting up an interesting new lineup that will play a central role moving forward.

Lorey confirmed that the roster teased in the Season 1 finale will be a major focus in the upcoming season.

"I think it'll be at least somewhat accurate. I mean, it's like those are all characters that we think would be really fun in the season. And James [Gunn] wrote, you know, all the episodes last season. So those were his instincts, which are pretty good."

He also made it clear that one particular character isn’t going anywhere: "So yeah, I would say there's that and, I mean, there's no world where I would want to do a season without a beefed-up GI Robot."

That "beefed-up" version of G.I. Robot was introduced in the finale, alongside Weasel, Doctor Phosphorus, Nosferata, Khalis, King Shark, and The Bride, who is set to lead the team.

Creature Commandos was a big hit with fans so it wasn’t a surprise that the show landed an early Season 2 renewal even before the finale aired.

Gunn and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran previously shared their excitement for continuing the series in a joint statement:

"We’re thrilled to team up with Max for another season of Creature Commandos mayhem. From our spectacular first season of Peacemaker to the astonishing run of The Penguin to the record-breaking launch of Creature Commandos, Max has consistently delivered above industry expectations and beyond our wildest imaginings."

They also thanked the Warner Bros. Discovery team, adding: "Thank you, Casey, Sarah, Pia, Sono and the entire team for your tremendous support of DC Studios. We are proud to call Max home."

While work on Season 2 is already moving forward, it’s unclear exactly when it will arrives, especially with other major DCU projects like Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 in post-production.

Gunn, who wrote every episode of Season 1, will likely have a hand in shaping the next season as well.

Creature Commandos follows a covert team of monstrous operatives tasked with missions too dangerous for humans. The cast features Steve Agee, Maria Bakalova, Anya Chalotra, Zoe Chao, Frank Grillo, Sean Gunn, David Harbour, Alan Tudyk, Indira Varma, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
