Creepy-Ass Trailer for the Horror Film ANNABELLE: CREATION

She's back. Or I guess this is sort of a prequel so she's here for the first time? The sequel/prequel/in-universe connection to The Conjuring film, Annabelle: Creation, starring everyone's favorite haunted doll has just received a trailer. It's just as scary as you might think it would be... depending on how scary you think things are. I grew up with a mother who had shelves full of dolls all around the house, so this terrifies me.

The first Annabelle movies was kinda meh, but this movie offers to up the ante by giving the full backstory of where the Annabelle doll came from, and why it's such a jerk. Spoiler: it might be Satan. The setting of the trailer already invokes spooky but not in the same sense as other modern scary movies.

Scary House. Check. Door no one is allowed to open. Check.  Nuns. Check. Lights mysteriously going out. Check. The brief synopsis reads:

Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.

One thing that sparks interest from this first trailer for me is that it seems the main girl that Annabelle is dicking around with, is crippled. Sort of, she has to use crutches to walk, and then a wheelchair, so she's definitely not at full health. I enjoy scary films with a disabled protagonist, not because I hate the disabled and want them to get haunted and killed, but because it gives a reason as to why the character is more vulnerable than others. It makes you more scared for them, because shoot, they can't run away!

The producer is James Wan who made the first Saw. You know, the good one, and the director is David F. Sandberg who directed the remarkably good horror movie Lights Out. So, despite its ties with varied other sequels and knock-offs, I am intrigued by this film. Of course, I could be completely wrong, but take a look at the new trailer and then decide. Annabelle: Creation comes out August 11th.
