Creepy-Ass Trailer For THE MORTUARY ASSISTANT Teases a Night Shift From Hell
Epic Pictures and Dread are bringing serious horror to the big screen with The Mortuary Assistant, a film adaptation of the popular horror video game, and the first trailer has officially arrived. This looks like it could be an awesome horror flick!
The film is directed by Jeremiah Kipp, who previously helmed Slapface, and stars Willa Holland from Arrow alongside Paul Sparks of Boardwalk Empire. The trailer leans hard into atmosphere, isolation, and dread, teasing a slow-burning nightmare that escalates fast once the sun goes down.
The Mortuary Assistant centers on Rebecca Owens, played by Holland, a newly certified mortician who takes a night job working alone in a mortuary.
What begins as routine embalming work quickly turns unsettling as disturbing events pile up. Rebecca finds herself tangled in demonic rituals, uncovering the disturbing past of her mentor, while confronting trauma she’s long kept buried. With possession looming, surviving the night becomes a race against something far darker than exhaustion.
The screenplay was written by Tracee Beebe and Brian Clarke, who also created the original video game. The film was produced by Epic Pictures through its horror label Dread.
Clarke shared his excitement about seeing the story make the jump from console to cinema, saying, “Seeing The Mortuary Assistant make the leap from game to film is incredibly rewarding.
“Fans of the game will finally witness the world they’ve explored come alive, while genre film audiences will discover a story filled with tension, dark secrets, and unforgettable scares. It’s a unique crossover that bridges two communities of horror fans in a way I’ve always imagined.”
With an R rating, a strong horror pedigree, and a fan-favorite game as its foundation, The Mortuary Assistant looks ready to deliver an intense and unsettling experience.
The movie is set to open in theaters on February 13 before heading to Shudder on March 27, giving horror fans two chances to experience its chilling story.
