Bleecker Street has released the first teaser trailer for the creepy new horror movie starring Rob Lowe and Crispin Glover, and while it doesn't reveal much, the unsettling imagery and freaky illustrations offer a taste of the nightmare awaiting audiences.
The film is based on the viral creepypasta horror stories written by Elias Witherow, which introduced readers to the nightmarish character Tommy Taffy. Glover plays the sinister figure, who disguises himself as a human and inserts himself into an unsuspecting family's life.
The story unfolds during a Fourth of July celebration when Tommy Taffy arrives in a suburban neighborhood with plans to take control of a family through his own twisted, authoritarian rules.
This isn't some unwanted relative crashing a holiday barbecue. This guy intends to make himself a permanent fixture in the household, and getting rid of him isn't going to be easy. The teaser offers one particularly disturbing promise: "Your family will soon be complete."
Rather than giving away the scares, the footage relies on creepy drawings and an ominous atmosphere to introduce Tommy Taffy. It's an effective little preview that makes you curious about just how messed up this story is going to get.
Along with Lowe and Glover, the cast includes Roselyn Sánchez, Bethany Milner, Rafael de Belligny, and Gary Michael Walters.
The Third Parent is written and directed by David Michaels, marking his feature directorial debut. Michaels previously worked on the Macabre Theatre series and several short films.
The movie has spent years bouncing around the release calendar, suffering multiple delays before finally securing a theatrical date. Bleecker Street is now scheduled to release The Third Parent in theaters on January 22, 2027.
