Creepy Kids Take Over in Trailer for the Playground Thriller HIVE Starring Xochitl Gomez

If you’ve got a thing for unsettling kids and low-budget horror that leans into the weird, Hive might be right up your alley. Tubi released the trailer for this indie thriller, and it’s got that kind of eerie energy where something feels off.

The film stars Xochitl Gomez, who a lot of fans will recognize from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, stepping into a much darker role here. She plays Sasha, a tightly wound teen babysitter who finds herself in a nightmare scenario after the child she’s watching suddenly vanishes.

What follows isn’t a straightforward search mission. Instead, things spiral into something much stranger as she begins to suspect there’s a sinister presence hiding in plain sight among the children at a playground.

That’s where Hive really leans into its concept. The kids are the threat, and the trailer makes it clear that Sasha’s reality starts slipping the deeper she gets pulled into whatever is going on. From there, it turns into a fight to survive in a world where nothing adds up and every interaction feels just a little off.

The concept taps into that classic horror idea where nothing is what it seems, but it twists it into something that feels a little more chaotic and unpredictable.

The film also features Aaron Dominguez, Zenobia Kloppers, Victoria Firsova, Tanya van Graan, Jenny le Roux, and Thulani Nzonzo.

Hive comes from filmmaker Felipe Vargas, who wrote and directed the project. It’s actually based on his 2024 short film of the same name, which he’s now expanded into a full feature.

The trailer has a strange vibe that almost feels like it could be an over-the-top parody, like something you’d catch in a late-night comedy sketch. But at the same time, there’s something about it that makes it look like it could be a seriously fun ride if it leans all the way into its weirdness.

The movie is set to stream for free starting April 17, 2026,
