Creepy New Trailer for Hideo Kojima’s Horror Game OD
Hideo Kojima just gave fans another look at his mysterious horror project OD, and the new trailer is pure nightmare fuel. The footage debuted during Kojima Productions’ “Beyond the Strand” 10th anniversary celebration, and it has everyone talking.
The three-minute trailer starts off with a cryptic image of a card sliding through a door slot. From there, it cuts to a series of eerie redacted lines of text:
"Ten years since the [redacted] horror [redacted], '[redacted].' The cursed [redacted] have once again [redacted] into the forbidden."
From there, the trailer throws us right into a first-person perspective, following a character played by Sophia Lillis. As rain pounds outside, she enters a candlelit room and begins lighting them one by one.
The quiet tension ramps up quickly with unsettling sounds like a baby crying and a disturbing pile of worms squirming across the table.
Things only get more intense when a series of loud knocks echo through the room. The door creaks open and a shadowy figure closes in as Lillis’s character, clearly terrified, stares forward with tears in her eyes. The trailer ends with a chilling scream as the figure grabs her face.
If you thought Death Stranding 2 looked incredibly realistic, OD looks like it’s pushing things even further. Lillis’s in-game model is so lifelike!
Kojima revealed that OD is being built with Unreal Engine, a departure from the Decima engine used for Death Stranding 2.
Get Out and Nope director Jordan Peele also worked on the game as a collaborator. It’s explained that “OD explores the concept of testing your fear threshold, and what it means to OD on fear – while blurring the boundaries of gaming and film.”
There’s still no release date for OD, but based on this trailer it’s shaping up to be something truly special for horror fans. Knowing Kojima, the final experience is bound to be as unsettling as it is unforgettable.
