Creepy Trailer for the Mortician Horror Film BROKEN BIRD

Catalyst Studios has released a trailer for Broken Bird, a disturbing horror thriller that’s making its way to theaters this spring. The movie centers on a mortician whose lonely existence and unusual passions slowly spiral into something unsettling.

The film follows Sybil Carmichael, played by Rebecca Calder, a soft-spoken and imaginative woman who spends her days working with the dead in a funeral parlor. Sybil finds comfort in strange places. She writes poetry, practices taxidermy, and feels far more understood by the deceased than she does by the living.

Life at the undertakers is isolating, and Sybil longs for connection. In Broken Bird, that yearning begins to twist in unsettling directions as grief and desire blur together. The story explores her search for love and belonging, but the deeper she goes, the more her need for intimacy takes a dark and disturbing turn.

The film was directed by Joanne Mitchell, an English actor and filmmaker making her feature directorial debut after previously working on several short films. The screenplay was written by Dominic Brunt, Tracey Sheals, and Mitchell, and the project expands on Mitchell’s earlier short film Sybil from 2018.

Early reactions from festival screenings have been strong, especially when it comes to Calder’s performance. One review describes the film by saying, "Featuring a killer performance from Rebecca Calder, Broken Bird is a bleak, Gothic psychological thriller that is capable of comfortably sitting alongside Saint Maud and May."

The cast also includes James Fleet, and the production team features producers Zoe Stewart, Mark Pennell, Holly Levow, Paul Kampf, and Dragan Ivanovic.

The newly released trailer leans heavily into the film’s eerie tone, teasing Sybil’s fragile mental state and the macabre world she inhabits. It’s creepy, unsettling, and hints at a psychological descent that horror fans will likely appreciate.

Catalyst Studios will release Broken Bird in U.S. theaters starting April 24, 2026.
