CRITICAL HIT AND MISS CHARTS Adds Flavor to Those Critical Moments in D&D
In Dungeons & Dragons, we all love to get that lovely natural 20 and we hate that natural 1. Some DMs even do their best to help add flavor to these rolls in various ways. For instance, I’ve sometimes had a natural 1 lead to self-injury for both players and enemies. Well, if you’re looking for some fun optional mechanics to implement into your game to help augment both the critical hits and the critical misses, you’ll wan to check out the Critical Hit and Miss Charts by Ed Shatto. The premise is simple. After rolling your 1 or 20, roll 1d4 and if you get a 3 or 4, roll another d20 and apply the effect from the table. For hits, this includes things like additional damage or dismemberment. For misses, you may accidentally throw your weapon or even break it. These charts are a lot of fun and I got a good laugh looking through them.
These charts make it more interesting when you or a foe rolls the magical 20 or the abyssmal 0. There are charts for regular combat, and ones for magical combat. Game tested, these charts make playing more challenging and entertaining.
You can purchase Critical Hit and Miss Charts from DMs Guild for $0.50.
