CRITICAL ROLE Started a Kickstarter for an Animated Special and It Already Has Over 367% the Original Goal
Critical Role is probably the most well-known Dungeons & Dragons live-play podcast. Then again, it’s possibly the most well-known D&D podcast of any genre. Their first campaign was called Vox Machina, and the podcast started well after the campaign. Now, fans are going to be able to see a 30-minute animated prequel special that sees the team at level 7, which is before the events of the first Critical Role episode. The special will be called The Legend of Vox Machina.
The special is being brought to life by Titmouse with the cast of Critical Role starring as their characters. Laura Bailey is the half-elf ranger Vex’ahlia, Taliesin Jaffe embodies the human gunslinger Percival “Percy” Fredrickstein Von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III, the gnome cleric Pike Trickfoot is played by Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien is the half-elf rogue and twin to Vex Vax’ildan, Marisha Ray is the half-elf druid Keyleth, the gnome bard Scanlan Shorthalt is Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham is Grog Strongjaw the goliath barbarian. The main cast will be joined by others in the voice over industry to round things out. Matthew Mercer is the Dungeon Master for the group and is planning on doing voice work as well. I imagine he will be a number of NPCs and such.
If this sounds like something you’d love to help happen, you’re in luck since they launched a Kickstarter campaign for the project Monday morning. From the reports I’ve heard, the project was funded within the first hour and it is now well over its goal. At the time of this writing, the project has raised $2.76 million. The project will close on April 18. If you pledge at least $20 you will be rewarded with some amazing rewards, so be sure to check all of those out. The special is expected to be released in fall 2020.
