If you enjoy movie and TV stories involving cults, here’s an interesting video that you’re gonna want to watch! It comes from Vanity Fair and it features cult deprogramming expert Rick Alan Ross discussing and breaking down how cults are presented in films and TV.

The films that he talks about in the video include The Vow, Midsommar, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, Charlie Says, Waco, The Master The Handmaid's Tale, Martha Marcy May Marlene and Holy Smoke.

He points out some interesting stuff, including how a scene from Midsommar shows a “trance-inducing” process that helps cults manipulate members. In regards to Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, he explains how one particular scene demonstrates the way cults keep their members isolated in order to maintain power. Pretty fascinating stuff!

Rick Alan Ross has helped people escape cults since 1982. He came into the spotlight in 1989 when CBS covered his deprogramming of a 14-year-old member of the Potter’s House Christian Fellowship. In 1987, Ross participated in the deprogramming of two former Branch Davidian members. He was the only deprogrammer to have worked with the cult members before the 1993 Waco siege.
