Cults Are In Right Now: Trailers For COLONIA and THE PATH

A few years ago, the Sundance Film Festival was bursting with movies about cults: Martha Marcy May Marlene, The East, Red State, and Sound of My Voice all debuted there. Now, five years later, it seems that cults are back in vogue once again. Today we have two cult-centric trailers to share with you; one for a film called Colonia, and the other for a new Hulu series called The Path.

Colonia stars Emma Watson as a young woman who goes undercover in a dangerous cult in an effort to save her boyfriend, who is played by Daniel Bruhl. Apparently it hasn't been getting very good reviews, and it doesn't even have U.S. release date lined up yet, but here's a new international trailer:

Chile, 1973. Lufthansa flight attendant Lena (Emma Watson) is in Santiago to visit her boyfriend, Daniel (Daniel Brühl), a talented graphic artist creating images in support of embattled President Salvador Allende. When Allende is violently ousted, General Augusto Pinochet’s forces begin rounding up dissidents. Daniel is taken to the remote stronghold of Colonia Dignidad (“Dignity Colony”), home to a secret agricultural commune and crypto-fascist sect led by sinister minister Paul Schäfer (Michael Nyqvist). Daniel is interrogated and tortured, but feigns severe mental deterioration to stay alive. Valiant and wily, Lena travels to Colonia and offers herself up to Schäfer as a follower. She is determined to find and free Daniel — but first she must ensure that she herself can survive Schäfer’s crushingly oppressive, viciously misogynistic practices.

Meanwhile, on the TV side of things, The Path is a new ten-episode Hulu original series from Jason Katims, the executive producer of Friday Night Lights and Parenthood. Aaron Paul and Michelle Monaghan star, and here's the official synopsis:
