CUPHEAD Comes To PlayStation 4, And It Is Still Amazing

It finally made it. After a long time of exclusivity, the super stylish and sleek old-timey platformer is on PlayStation 4! There is nothing different or added onto the PS4 version compared to the systems. But that doesn’t make it any less great! So, get ready to shoot some cartoon bad guys in a perfectly stylized game.

For those who don’t know the game, Cuphead is a 2D platformer, along the likes of Mega Man. And like MegaMan, this game has a plethora of fantastic bosses, great level design and will easily challenge any player. This game isn’t easy, it won’t hold the player’s hands and it can take a lot of tries before beating a level or boss. It is impressive to have such good challenges in the boss fights even when weapons are upgraded or weapons are specifically bought/chosen to fight certain bosses. And yet, the battles never feel unfair or random. Every death felt like it was my fault, but in a way where I learned and could see progressing improvements in my fights with bosses or level, even if they were small.

As tight and sleek as the gameplay is, the only other thing that overshadows it is the visual style. From the moment this game starts up to killing the bosses, it’s extremely impressive how faithful the game looks to 1930s cartoons. The curves, slick characters, transformations, and excessive expressions take players into those classic cartoons.

This is an easy recommendation for anybody who enjoys tough games with cool bosses and a really great style. It, unfortunately, doesn’t seem to have any major notable changes or additions compared to other iterations of the game. So there isn’t much of a reason to play or purchase it if you’ve already completed it on another system. But this is an easy recommendation for anybody who enjoys well crafted and intense games.
