Daisy Ridley Addresses The Negative Fan Reaction of STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER

I imagine being a part of this latest Star Wars trilogy was an exciting and interesting experience. It would have been an amazing experience to be a part of making these films. At the same time, the films that were made caused a huge division among fans. Star Wars fan toxicity has never been so bad.

While each individual film had some cool and fun moments, they were filled with problems, and as a whole, the story just didn’t flow together well or really work. The last film in the Skywalker saga, The Rise of Skywalker, left a lot of fans disappointed and the fans lashed out on social media.

Daisy Ridley was recently a guest on Nina West's DragCast, and in that interview, she addresses the fan reaction admitting the harsh reception did not match the jovial mood after The Force Awakens:

"[Reaction has] changed film by film honestly, like 98% it's so amazing, this last film it was really tricky. January was not that nice. It was weird, I felt like all of this love that we'd sort of been shown the first time around, I was like, 'Where's the love gone?'“

She goes on to talk about how so much love was poured into these films by the creative team, only to have people not like it:

“I watched the documentary, the making-of The Skywalker Legacy, this week and it’s so filled with love; and I think it’s that tricky thing of when you’re part of something that is so filled with love and then people [don’t like it].”

She believes a lot of the reaction from the fans was a bit over-the-top, and that social media helps fuel that hate:

“You know, everyone’s entitled to not like something but it feels like it’s changed slightly. I think in general that’s because [of] social media and what have you.”

In the end, a lot of fans seem to feel that The Rise of Skywalker is a forgettable movie. This trilogy could and should have been so much better! Oh well, hopefully the future films end up being better and at least we have the awesomeness of The Mandalorian giving us all of the things we want from the franchise!
