Dakota Johnson Is Looking To Do "Some Tom Cruise Stuff" in Sony's Marvel Film MADAME WEBB
As you know, Sony Pictures is developing a new film based on Marvel’s Spider-Man universe character Madame Webb. From what I’ve seen, there aren’t very many people who are excited about this movie. It’s hard to be excited because without Marvel’s involvement, Sony continues to prove that they don’t really know what they are doing when it comes to these live-action movies. They’d like to think that they know, but they don’t.
Anyway, the film is said to be an origin story for Madame Web, “a clairvoyant whose psychic abilities allow her to see within the spider world itself.” In the comics, Madame Web is an elderly blind woman named Cassandra Webb. who is “suffering from a chronic neuromuscular disease that makes it difficult to move and breathe, and as such, she’s connected to a life support system that looks like a spider web. The clairvoyant character has precognitive abilities and once helped Spider-Man find a kidnap victim.”
But there’s also another younger version of the character named Julia Carpenter, who gains precognition powers after Cassandra is killed. It’s believed that this is the version of the character that Johnson will play, and the actress is looking to do some of her own stunts like Tom Cruise.
During an interview with Vanity Fair, the writer notes that Johnson has been “putting on some muscle” to perform as many stunts as possible. When asked about her work on the film, Johnson excitedly said: “I feel like I can probably do some Tom Cruise stuff.”
So, I guess we can expect to see Johnson throwing herself into some cool action sequences. I like that she’s open to doing that kind of stuff! S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones and The Defenders) is directing the movie from a script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. They previously wrote one of the worst movies of the year, Morbius.
