Dakota Johnson Reportedly Circling Role in New STAR WARS Film

It looks like Dakota Johnson might be heading from Sony’s Marvel misstep straight into the galaxy far, far away.

According to a report from insider Daniel Richtman, Johnson is being eyed for a role in an upcoming Star Wars project. While there’s no confirmation and the details are extremely light, it’s the kind of rumor that will get fans talking.

When talking about the fallout of Madame Web, Johnson said: "It wasn’t my fault. There’s this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee.

“Or made by people who don’t have a creative bone in their body. And it’s really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way. And I think unfortunately with Madame Web, it started out as something and turned into something else."

She didn’t stop there. "And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger-budget movies fail all the time. I don’t have a Band-Aid over it. There’s no part of me that’s like, ‘Oh, I’ll never do that again’ to anything. I’ve done even tiny movies that didn’t do well. Who cares?"

So it seems like Johnson would still be open to jump into the Star Wars franchise, even after her experience with Madame Web. She also recently worked with The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal on the film Materialists. Maybe his positive experience helped shape her outlook?

This comes as Lucasfilm is still figuring out how to handle the Star Wars films. The Mandalorian & Grogu is lined up to possibly kick off a new trilogy, and Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter is gaining momentum with a cast that includes Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently said, "I really think that now we’re in a position where it’s broadened the possibility of stories and filmmakers we can bring in to tell stories that mean something to them – it doesn’t necessarily have to connect to every little thing that’s been done in Star Wars. It can actually be a standalone story that then builds into many, many other stories."

Would Dakota Johnson be a good fit for the Star Wars universe?
