Dakota Johnson Set to Star in Sony's New Marvel Film Project MADAME WEB
Sony Pictures is taking a big step forward with its next Marvel film project, Madame Web. Dakota Johnson (Susperia, 50 Shades of Grey) is in talks to star in the film, which is being directed by S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones, The Defenders).
Obviously, they are looking to change the age of Madame Web because, in the comics, she is an elderly blind woman, so they’re really going to change some things up! The character was created by writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr., and first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #210, in November 1980.
“Known as Cassandra Webb, she is usually depicted as an elderly blind woman suffering from a chronic neuromuscular disease that makes it difficult to move and breathe, and as such, she’s connected to a life support system that looks like a spider web. The clairvoyant character has precognitive abilities and once helped Spider-Man find a kidnap victim.”
This is an interesting character in the Spider-Man universe, but I don’t know, it looks like they are going to remove a lot of the stuff from the character that actually makes her interesting. We’ll just have to wait and see what they end up doing with her. Maybe it will be an origin story of sorts. I can see Johnson playing a younger version of the character, but there are no details on what the story for this film will entail.
Apparently, producers have been meeting with a number of A-listers over the past few months, but two months and they ended up narrowing it down to Johnson.
Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the screenplay for the film. What do you think about Johnson taking on the role of Madame Web?
